12 Days of Christmas

The 12 Days of Christmas or the Yuletide:

They are not the 12 days before Christmas but 12 days from Xmas till the beginning of Epiphany (that is January the 6th). People celebrate these 12 days with fun, merry making, feasting and exchanging gifts with their near and dear ones. The Yule is also known as Christmastide or Christmastime. After Christmas the first weekday is declared holiday by the Commonwealth of Nations and marked by giving Christmas gifts to the workers. This is also known as the Boxing Day and is observed on 26th or on 27th by the Western and Eastern Churches respectively in the UK. On December 28th people celebrate the "Feast of the Innocents". The French and English celebrate the Twelfth Night by cutting King's Cake to remember the three Wise Men from the East and beer or wine. The night is concluded with feasting by removing the Christmas decorations. It is said that it brings bad omen to take out the decoration after this day.

The Twelve Days of Christmas the "song":

This popular song was created in England to make the young children learn about the basics of Christianity. According to few historians this song was first published in a book "Mirth without Mischief" around late 1700. It was originated in France and there it was sung by children to play games. However with time the song became an integral part of the Yuletide. The song has different hidden meanings like the "true love" was none other than the God Himself.
